Macy's Stores Nationwide to Broadcast National Anthem in Salute of Flag Day Celebration for the 200th Anniversary of "The Star Spangled Banner"
800 Stores to play National Anthem on Flag Day with Special In-Store Events in New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington, DC
NEW YORK, June 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, June 14th, Macy's will join the Smithsonian's National Museum in celebrating the 200th Anniversary of "The Star Spangled Banner" with an all-star salute to the red, white and blue at all full-line stores. This Flag Day, all Macy's stores from coast-to-coast will play the national anthem at 4PM EDT, supporting the Smithsonian's "Raise it Up" Anthem for America concert to create a moment of national unity by complementing the live musical sing-along event staged from the National Mall in Washington, DC. Playing in Macy's stores will be the exclusive recording of "The Star Spangled Banner" by Pat Monahan of the pop rock band Train.
Currently, Macy's is celebrating all things American from its people and places to the pastimes that make this country great with its "American Icons" campaign. Honoring the 200th Anniversary of the national anthem marks a unique moment in Macy's patriotic campaign as it celebrates an American icon and national treasure.
As America's department store, Macy's shows its patriotic spirit in song and with specially produced events featuring simultaneous sing-alongs at select stores. Macy's Herald Square kicks-off the day's celebration with a special performance at 11AM by the cast of Broadway's hit musical, "Newsies." At 4PM EDT, Macy's Center City store in Philadelphia will mark this special moment with a performance on the Wanamaker Organ, the World's Largest pipe organ, accompanied by 60 students from the Girard Academic Music Program. Macy's State Street will raise up their voice with a rousing performance of the anthem by the Chicago Children's Chorus with the store's famous 50' x 100' custom made American Flag that has been a tradition in that store since 1916.
In addition, Macy's store windows at the Herald Square flagship in New York City along with the retailer's stores at Downtown Crossing in Boston, on State Street in Chicago, in Center City, Philadelphia, Downtown Pittsburgh and Metro Center in downtown Washington, DC will all cast the spotlight on The Smithsonian Museum's "Raise it Up" national celebration.
Macy's will continue the celebration of the national anthem's special anniversary online with a free download of Tony Award winner Idina Menzel's exclusive recording of "The Star Spangled Banner," for the 38th Annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks® score. Free download will be available for a limited time only from June 14th – July 5th on macys.com/fireworks.
