The Featured Artists––Kyle Lambert (digital artist), Michael Koerbel and Anna Elizabeth James (Apple of My Eye), Joseph O. Holmes (fine art photographer) and Jonathan Mann ("Song A Day")––have made the leap into popular culture and represent the best of the new breed of digital artisans who are stretching the boundaries of technology for creative endeavors.
"From music to visual arts to movie making, technology has made the veil between everyday user and genius thin," said Paul Kent, vice president and general manager, Macworld 2011. "To exemplify this new reality, we scoured the country and carefully selected a group of 'populist' artists who are doing truly amazing things with Apple products. These creative, innovative and downright cool people are taking technology to amazing new places and we are so excited to bring them to Macworld 2011 to share their experiences, unveil their creations and teach us all about how technology is changing the creative process."
The Macworld 2011 Featured Artists program includes the following sessions:
- "Digital Artwork on the Mac, iPad and iPhone," with Kyle Lambert, visual artist, on Thursday, January 27 at 10:30 a.m. PT
A renowned digital artist and ambassador for finger painting with the iPad, Kyle Lambert will talk about his artwork and demonstrate how he utilizes the Mac, iPad and iPhone to enhance his creativity.
- "Mobile Movie Making - A New Frontier for Creating and Distributing Media," with Michael Koerbel and Anna Elizabeth James, producers/directors at Majek Pictures, on Thursday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. PT
This session will explore a new method of visual storytelling. After the success of Apple of My Eye––shot and edited entirely on iPhone 4––Michael Koerbel and Anna Elizabeth James set out to make Goldilocks, a mobile film series in the same vein as Bourne Ultimatum. The series was originally intended to go through the Hollywood studio system, but the duo soon realized the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch would give them the opportunity to shoot and distribute it themselves, which they did. In addition to providing attendees with tips and tricks for shooting and editing with the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch, as well as insight into the top film accessories, gadgets and mobile movie making apps, Michael and Anna will discuss their distribution model of releasing Goldilocks through an app.
- "The Fine Art Photographers' Workflow - Developing an Efficient Path to Better-looking Photos," with Joseph O. Holmes, fine art photographer, on Friday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m. PT
Images right out of a digital camera are usually flat, dull and in dire need of post-processing. Over the past six years running his photoblog and preparing exhibition prints, nationally-recognized photographer Joseph O. Holmes has developed a set of routines to consistently bring out his particular vision without chaining him to his workstation all day. In this session, Holmes will share his entire routine, start to finish, and empower attendees to adopt a similar workflow for prepping photos in just a few minutes. Starting in Apple Aperture (for cataloging), attendees will follow an image as it passes through DxO Tools, Adobe Camera Raw, and Adobe Photoshop, with particular emphasis on making the most of Photoshop's powerful tools with the least amount of guesswork and trial and error. Attendees will learn how to quickly prepare images for exhibition or the Web by using of shortcuts, little-known tricks, special software tools and Photoshop actions.
- "How I Write A Song A Day," with Jonathan Mann, musician, on Saturday, January 29 at 3:00 p.m. PT
What started as a month-long experiment has turned into an ongoing daily challenge that's taken Jonathan Mann all kinds of places he never could have expected, from sharing the stage virtually with Steve Jobs to Steve Wozniak's birthday party. In this session, Jonathan will take attendees through his process and discuss why he does what he does. He'll also sing some songs, share some videos and take attendees along for a fun, music-filled ride.
"As a self-proclaimed Apple fanboy, Macworld has for years been an important destination for me to learn about what's new and network with others who have the same enthusiasm for Apple products," said Jonathan Mann. "With 'A Song A Day,' I've been able to turn my passion into a day job and the last year has been nothing short of amazing. Now, I'm excited to share my experiences, adventures, inspirations, tips, and even a few songs and videos, at Macworld 2011. I can't wait to see you there."
Macworld 2011 will take place January 26–29, 2011, at Moscone Center's West Hall in San Francisco. Complete information on the conference program can be found at: http://www.macworldexpo.com/conference. To register for a Macworld 2011 conference pass, visit http://www.macworldexpo.com.
