Macronix Exhibits at Electronica 2012
To Present Non-Volatile Flash Memory Solutions for the Automotive Industry
HSINCHU, Taiwan, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Macronix International Co., Ltd. (TSE: 2337), a leading provider of non-volatile memory semiconductor solutions, today announced that it will exhibit its Flash Memory solutions for the automotive industry at Electronica 2012 in Munich, Germany. All products will be presented from November 13 to 16 in the Munich Trade Fair Centre Hall A6 at booth 179. By attending this trade fair, the company is demonstrating its expanding market position in automotive applications and reinforcing its commitments to the automotive industry. As part of its growth strategy, Macronix is also planning to open a support office in Munich.
"The requirements for automotive electronics are perpetuated by the accumulation of increasing features. With our portfolio of Flash Memory solutions, we are well prepared for these challenges," says Mr. Miin Wu, Chairman and CEO of Macronix. "Germany, as the home country of many leading car manufacturers, is an important market where we want to highlight our automotive solutions and industry leading quality."
One of the focuses of this year's Electronica trade fair attendees is Serial NOR Flash Memory, which delivers fast boot time (through multi I/O interfaces) and high-capacity storage for automotive electronics. They have the following USPs:
- The Serial Flash Memories are available with a capacity of up to 512 megabits (3.3 volts).
- All Flash Memories support a 24-bit and higher densities support 32-bit extended address command set available including block protection.
- The NOR Flash Memories from Macronix meet the standards of TS16949 and AEC Q-100 of the automotive industry and the requirements of data integrity for all Flash Memory components used in vehicles.
- Macronix Automotive Flash Memories are mainly used for automotive applications such as TFT displays, clusters, navigation systems, ADAS applications, audio/video systems, telematics and black box event recorder systems.
Quality production standard
Products for the automotive industry have to fulfill the particularly high quality demands of the automotive customers. To meet these requirements, Macronix has developed a quality management system that ensures the quality of their products from design through to production and over the entire life cycle of the product. Since entering the automotive market in 2010, the company has also completed many successful quality audits with many of the worlds leading tier 1 automotive suppliers; in fact, there have been no audit or design review failures.
Next-generation memory technologies
Additionally, with a solid roadmap of advanced floating gate technologies and many innovative solutions in development, Macronix is confident to be able to service not only today's needs, but the future system level needs of the rapidly expanding number of applications being seen in the next generation of modern vehicles.
During the exhibition, Macronix will present its 3D VG (Vertical Gate) NAND Flash using its patented BE-SONOS (barrier engineering) charge-trapping technology and 3D decoding architecture. Traditional NAND Flash will be facing a technology barrier when it scales to below the 2Xnm node. The three-dimensional memory cell array structure has been proposed to be the most promising candidate for NAND Flash to shrink to below 1Xnm in order to meet the high density capacity requirement.
Macronix will also introduce its own newly developed HybridFlash™ for industrial applications. The HybridFlash™ is a cost effective and high-reliability system memory combination solution using Macronix's XtraROM™ with leading edge 4bits per cell charge trapping technology and high performance Serial NOR Flash. User-Friendly interfaces such as SPI, NAND or even eMMC may be provided. This innovative solution could provide the memory storage density from 2Gb up to 8Gb.
Over 20 years of experience in Flash Memory
With over 20 years of integrated device manufacturer experience of manufacturing excellence and in-house design capabilities, Macronix provides a broad range of Serial and Parallel NOR Flash as well as NAND Memory and ROM Memory solutions. To fulfill customers' future needs, Macronix has reserved 10-12% of its annual revenues for R&D investment in recent years. Patents can be regarded as an important indicator to measure an enterprise's innovation in R&D. Last year, the American authoritative consulting institute, The Patent Board evaluated 240 semiconductor companies worldwide and ranked Macronix 18th in overall patent strength. In the Science Strength category, Macronix was number 11th in terms of having utilised science to build its patent portfolio. Macronix's broad and quality products have shown the application and high value of its patents.
In summary, Macronix has the experience, know-how, service and high quality product portfolio to satisfy the demanding needs of the automotive market. This, along with a customer centric approach and proven history of long product life-cycle support truly makes Macronix the ideal choice as embedded and automotive strategic partner.
