Macro Risk Advisors Supports Cancer Research with 3rd Annual Charitable Trading Day
NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Macro Risk Advisors (MRA), a leading provider of global market risk analysis and execution services for institutional investors, today announced that it raised $401,000 in its third annual charitable trading day on October 14th. All of the net commissions earned from option, stock and ETF trades, will be donated to four diverse organizations selected by MRA. The Cancer Research Institute and the Melanoma Research Fund at the Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone, both of which focus on cancer research breakthroughs by way of immunology and immunotherapy, will receive $180,000 each. In the spirit of MRA's ongoing support of initiatives that help our nation's youth, $20,500 will be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters NYC and Make-A-Wish Foundation Metro and Western NY.
MRA selected the two cancer research organizations to participate in honor of close friend and former colleague, Nick Perry, who passed away at 52 years of age from metastatic melanoma on June 17th. "Nick was a particularly special individual who touched the lives of many in our industry. He was completely unique, endlessly positive, and entirely good-natured. We wanted to work together as a team and with our clients to remember him and to contribute to the important cause of cancer research. I am personally grateful for the amazing efforts of the team at MRA and our clients in making this day so successful," said Dean Curnutt, CEO of MRA.
The efforts of CRI and the Melanoma Research Fund resonated with both MRA and its clients, who generously helped the firm reach its goal to achieve a powerful donation mark. "I am so grateful to Dean Curnutt and his team at Macro Risk Advisors for their selfless leadership, energy and generosity in hosting their Third Annual Charitable Trading Day as a way to raise both funds for and awareness of melanoma research. This is a special tribute to their former colleague and my former patient, Nick Perry and his family. These funds will make a significant impact and provide critical support for my team's efforts at NYU Langone Medical Center's Perlmutter Cancer Center to find improved ways to diagnose, treat, and eventually cure melanoma. Thank you to all who made this day such a success," said Dr. Ann Pavlick, head of the Melanoma Research Fund.
Adding to the meaning of the charity trading day, the CEOs from both CRI and Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as executives from Make-A-Wish and NYU Langone joined the MRA team to watch the stock and option execution process in real time. Trading started off with much excitement at the opening bell, and the energy continued throughout the day until the market close. "The success of MRA's Charity Day is first and foremost a win for cancer patients, who ultimately benefit from the cutting-edge science and clinical trials that we fund at the Cancer Research Institute," said Jill O'Donnell-Tormey, Ph.D., CEO and director of scientific affairs at CRI. "The superlative generosity of MRA employees will help us to bring lifesaving immunotherapies to more patients sooner, and we are deeply grateful for MRA's support in this worthwhile cause."
The donations to both Big Brothers Big Sisters NYC and Make-A-Wish Metro and Western NY will help the organizations continue their focus on uplifting, empowering and providing hope to our nation's youth, including those affected by economic hardship and life-threatening diseases. "At MRA, we believe in giving and in the power of mentorship and recognize that not every youth has access to a mentor. We are excited to support Big Brothers Big Sisters and Make-A-Wish and help them have a positive impact on families," said Drew Forman, Co-Head of trading at MRA.
