Macro Risk Advisors Raises Over $185,000 in 5th Annual Charitable Trading Day
MRA will donate all commissions to NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center's Breast Cancer Prevention Fund, Chess in the Schools, ScriptEd and Friends of Hudson River Park
NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Macro Risk Advisors (MRA), a leading provider of global market risk analysis and execution services for institutional investors, today announced that it raised $188,000 during the firm's fifth annual charitable trading day on Oct. 27th, 2016.
All of the net commissions earned from option, stock and ETF trades will be donated to four diverse organizations selected by MRA: NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center's Breast Cancer Prevention Fund, Chess in the Schools, ScriptEd and Friends of Hudson River Park.
Throughout the five consecutive years operating this program, MRA has raised over $1.5 million in charitable contributions and provided continuing support for medical innovation, education for underprivileged youth, mentorship programs, housing for veterans and other causes.
"Over the past five years, we have enthusiastically recognized and contributed to organizations that tackle some of the greatest challenges facing our society," said Drew Forman, co-head of sales and trading at MRA. "I want to personally thank our team and clients for making this day possible, and I feel proud of our ongoing efforts to give back to the community in which we operate."
The organizations were chosen for their unique missions in the fields of healthcare, education and sustainability.
According to the American Cancer Society, a woman living in the United States today has a 1 in 8 lifetime chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer. "Although many women with breast cancer today live longer and healthier lives than ever before, more research remains to be done," Dr. Freya R. Schnabel, an oncologist specializing in breast surgery at NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center, said. "It is time to shift our approach from the 'identify and treat' model to the 'intervene and prevent' model."
The Breast Cancer Prevention and Database Fund supports Dr. Schnabel's efforts to create a sophisticated database that illuminates risk-factor patterns, which may lead to more effective disease intervention and prevention.
Chess in the Schools (CIS) teaches chess to low-income, NYC public school students as a tool to develop problem-solving, critical thinking and strategic skills. "Just as MRA is continually 'raising the bar' for its clients, we at CIS will 'raise the bar' for over 11,000 students this year," said Debbie Eastburn, president and chief executive officer at CIS. "We are deeply grateful for MRA's support, which is particularly meaningful as we cross our 30 year anniversary milestone."
ScriptEd operates a tuition-free program equipping students in under-resourced schools with fundamental coding skills and professional experiences that together create access to careers in technology. The organization's student population is 45% female and over 80% black or Latino.
Hudson River Park on Manhattan's west side is the longest riverfront park in the United States. Friends of Hudson River Park helps to ensure ongoing sustainability by serving as the park's primary source of fundraising, advocacy and support. MRA's donation will support the park's horticulture and environmental initiatives; recreational facilities and equipment; educational programming and public events; and operations and security.
