MacPractice MD 5.1 Announced with Industry First Fully Integrated, Secure HIPAA Compliant Communications and Online Patient Services
LINCOLN, Neb., Dec. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MacPractice previewed MacPractice 5.1 at a December trade show. Many new and enhanced features will be delivered with MacPractice MD 5.1 in Q1 2015, with an emphasis on industry first, fully integrated, comprehensive, communications services for doctors and their patients that is secure and HIPAA compliant.
The leading Mac OS native medical software, both current MacPractice MD 5 as well as forthcoming v.5.1, are compatible with Yosemite and Mavericks and interoperate with MacPractice's iOS 8 compatible Patient Check In, Clipboard, and iEHR Apps for iPad as well MacPractice Interface for iPad and MacPractice Interface for iPhone.

MacPractice's Scheduling and Imaging Abilities have been rewritten in v.5.1 to boost speed and performance in the office, especially for remote offices.
MacPractice 5.1 and earlier versions feature tightly integrated, certified ePrescribe (required of all New York providers March 27, 2015) for ALL substances, controlled and non-controlled. ePrescribe does not require EHR, and the Rx Ability is free in MacPractice with an ePrescribe subscription.
With the introduction of MacPractice 5.1, MacPractice sets a new standard for integrated practice communications. Besides integrated faxing and secure messaging, MacPractice plans to provide every service available from third parties to its users at a lower cost, with tighter integration and greater security, in addition to web services not available to users of other products. Planned services for early 2015 are:
- Doctor-Doctor collaboration, 256 bit encryption, utilizes Direct protocol
- Doctor-Patient communication, 256 bit encryption, utilizes Direct protocol
- Patient Portal with ONC/CMS certified functionality and secure messaging
- patients can view, download and transmit clinical documents
- patients can review demographics and request corrections
- patients can see who has accessed their files and when
- Online Registration with EHR Forms places discrete data directly in MacPractice
- Appointments- patients can view appointments, confirm, request changes
- Online Schedule- patients can schedule their own appointment
- Online Statements- patients can review charges and pay online
- Online Surveys- patients say what they think, practices can publish results
Avoid HIPAA penalties of up to $50,000 per incident (e.g. per single noncompliant email or text) in 2015, which is being called "The Year of Audits", by using HIPAA compliant, secure communication services offered in MacPractice software properly.
For practices that don't already have a web site, MacPractice even offers to host and create a one-page site for $10 monthly. MacPractice has added practice management reports requested by doctors and will continue to do so, at no additional cost to any user. MacPractice's preferred vendor for phone, text, and/or email patient reminders is AutoRemind, which is tightly integrated with MacPractice including automatic appointment status updates. MacPractice has partnered with Transworld to provide in-application collection services superior to those offered by a web service that cannot write back to MacPractice.
MacPractice 5 and 5.1 are ICD-10-capable (required of all providers October 2015), and feature government prescribed data security.
