Mack Condemns Attack on U.S. Ambassador, Diplomats in Libya
WASHINGTON, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Connie Mack (FL-14) released the following statement in response to the killing of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
Mack stated: "The cowardly attacks on U.S. diplomatic officers resulting in the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Libya are tragic and abhorrent. The loss of these four Americans who died while serving our country is both saddening and distressing. My sincerest condolences go out to the families of those who lost loved ones.
"These devastating casualties suffered by the United States on September 11, 2012 serve as a striking reminder that the U.S. must reestablish a clarity of purpose for the world to see. In the absence of American leadership, anti-freedom fighters have gained dangerous ground – not only in Libya and Egypt, but in Iran, Syria, Cuba and around the globe where the values and citizens of the U.S. and our ally Israel are increasingly under attack.
"Attacks on our diplomatic missions and against U.S. personnel working overseas are an attack on America. I call not only for swift justice to be brought to those who carried out the attack, but for a message to resonate around the world that attacks against American diplomats will not be tolerated."
