MacArthur Foundation To Announce Recipients Of MacArthur Award For Creative And Effective Institutions
CHICAGO, Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On February 5, 2015, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation will announce the 2015 recipients of the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
The award recognizes and invests in small to mid-sized, nonprofit organizations in the United States and around the world that are having an impact altogether disproportionate to their size. They may provide new ways of looking at or addressing problems, generate provocative ideas, or help reframe the debate.
Recipients are awarded up to $1 million each, depending on their budget, a large investment given their size. They must demonstrate exceptional creativity and effectiveness; have reached a critical or strategic point in their development; show strong leadership and stable financial management; work in one of the fields in which MacArthur is engaged; and have previously received MacArthur support. The Foundation does not seek or accept outside nominations for the award.
The awards are an extension of MacArthur's long tradition of nurturing emerging organizations and celebrating creativity. MacArthur was an early supporter of what became Human Rights Watch, the largest U.S.-based human rights organization; Creative Commons, which has changed the way we think about copyright; and the World Resources Institute, the global environmental think tank.
