Pasadena ISD to 'Level the Playing Field' Through New LTE Broadband Internet Service
PASADENA, Texas, Oct. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Pasadena Independent School District will be the first school district In Texas to provide its own private, self-managed, high speed, wireless LTE broadband network for students at home.
"Equitable broadband access in school and at home is the key to student-centered learning and decreasing the performance and homework gaps among students," said Arthur Allen, Pasadena ISD CTO. "The vision of this project demonstrates the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees' commitment to provide the best instruction to all students."
The district partnered with M&A Technology, Inc., a Dallas based full service technology provider with a 30-year history of supporting Texas school districts, to install the latest generation of 4G-LTE broadband technology at 15 school locations, which is linked to the district's network.
This new era of 4G-LTE technology will deliver high-speed internet access to students to meet the demands of the 21st century learner and expand opportunities for both enrichment and skill development.
Recent demographic studies show that 40 percent of households have low quality or no access to the internet. To address this issue, the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees and administration decided to level the playing field to extend access for all students to have equal opportunity to internet service.
The 4G-LTE internet access will bring relevant curriculum resources that are only available in the classroom, to families in their homes to enable continuous learning opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to explore and expand their knowledge of assignments in their own environment, while staying connected to the same safe and secure network managed by the district.
The district understands that to empower students to become self-directed, anytime, anywhere learners, the resources available at school must be made available at home and in today's mobile world.
This school-to-home technology initiative has now entered the field testing phase. Students, parents and educators will soon have a new tool to extend their learning beyond their time in the classroom.
"This is a recent example of innovative educational learning initiatives supported by technology driven resources to foster student success in Pasadena ISD," Allen said.
