Lynden International partners with Gates Foundation in Ebola treatment initiative
SEATTLE, Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lynden International, a full-service freight forwarding and logistics company, was named a key industry and foundation partner in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's launch of a $5.7 million effort to support Ebola-affected countries and to accelerate the evaluation of potential treatments.
The Gates Foundation will be supporting efforts in Guinea and other Ebola-affected countries to scale up production and evaluation of convalescent plasma and other blood products as potential therapies for people infected with the Ebola virus. Lynden International recently provided personnel and expertise for the import and delivery of mobile blood units into West Africa. Lynden assisted in the charter of an Antonov AN-124, supplied by the United Nations, from Greensboro, N.C. to West Africa carrying mobile labs, generators and other equipment.
With just seven days' notice, the Lynden team did all the prep work – inventory, crating, export declarations and titles – to ship the vehicles and equipment to Nigeria, Liberia and Guinea. Once the vehicles and equipment arrived in West Africa, Lynden was responsible for customs clearance, warehousing and time-specific delivery to area hospitals.
"We are proud to be a part of this important world health project spearheaded by the Gates Foundation," says Dave Richardson, Lynden International President, "and we appreciated the support of the Airport and Customs Authorities at Greensboro and Raleigh-Durham Airports. With our global logistics services and experience, we are ready to assist and provide expertise in any future endeavors to fight the Ebola virus."
Lynden International is one of the Lynden family of companies, whose combined capabilities include: worldwide air and ocean forwarding, third-party logistics, trade show shipping, shipping to Alaska, truckload and less-than-truckload transportation, scheduled barges to Alaska and Hawaii, charter barges, intermodal bulk chemical hauls, scheduled and chartered Hercules L-382 cargo aircraft and multi-modal logistics. Lynden companies are repeat winners in the annual Quest for Quality awards presented by Logistics Management magazine.
