Lyme Disease Prevention & Treatment with Integrative Therapies at Patients Medical
Dr. Rashmi Gulati Spotlights Lyme Disease and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
NEW YORK, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Patients Medical, a leading integrative and holistic medical center in New York City, is supporting National Lyme Disease Awareness month by providing patients with valuable tips to prevent the disease, as well as education on the best treatment options available.
"Prevention is always the best cure. Minimize your risk of exposure to the disease-causing bacterium transmitted through ticks by wearing protective clothing when you are in tall grass or densely wooded areas. Long pants, long sleeves, boots with socks and a head covering will minimize the area that may be susceptible to ticks. Light colored clothing will make it easier to see ticks if they land on you," says Dr. Rashmi Gulati, Medical Director of Patients Medical. "Upon returning home, check yourself, your children and your pets for ticks right away. The risk of sustaining Lyme disease is very low within the first 24-48 hours, but if you find a tick, remove it immediately with a tweezers as close to your skin as possible, then wash the affected area with warm water and soap or alcohol. Take the tick to your doctor's office for evaluation, and if you see a bull's eye shaped rash developing on your skin, see your doctor immediately."
"At Patients Medical we conduct detailed Lyme disease testing with a state-of-the-art lab. If the results are positive, we begin treatment either with oral or intravenous (IV) antibiotics or other modalities including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment (HBOT), and oral or IV supplement therapies," explains Dr. Gulati.
Dr. Gulati recommends HBOT, a non-invasive therapy that uses 95-99% oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure in a controlled environment. This treatment enhances the body's natural ability to heal, reduces inflammation, and is useful in treating a range of conditions including wound healing, autism, cerebral palsy, fibromyalgia, and Lyme disease. "Bacteria, such as that which causes Lyme disease, are unable to survive in such an oxygen-rich environment and can be greatly reduced or eliminated over a course of treatments."
With over 10 years of experience including a medical directorship at Humana, a contractor for the US Department of Defense, Rashmi Gulati, MD, is a leader in internal and integrative medicine. Dr. Gulati aims to improve overall well-being and maximize the quality of life for her patients by balancing their mind, body and spirit.
