SECAUCUS, N.J., May 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Lycored, an international wellness company at the forefront of ingredient and nutrition supplements, announced today that its skin health study, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, has taken home the NutraIngredients Award for Best University Research, which recognizes true innovation and cutting edge research in health foods, supplements and nutrition. Lycored was presented the award on Wednesday, May 10th, at the NutraIngredients Awards in Geneva, Switzerland, where the brand highlighted the research and findings conducted by the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine.
Lycored's skin health study, which researched how Lycopene-Rich Tomato Nutrition Complex (TNC) and lutein can protect against UVA/B- and UVA1 radiation at a molecular level, was recognized by judges in the first round of over 100 stand-out entries entered, and then in final judging amongst two other competitors. To be awarded the win, judges determined that Lycored's presentation on the study met all of the criteria including the objective, summary of methodology, how it contributes to previous research, credibility, commerciality and that the nutrition world can be proud of the research. Previously, in 2016 Lycored's Cardiomato won the NutraIngredients Award for Best Finished Product of the Year – Heart Health, making this their second win for their nutrient complex program and first for their skin health and wellness program.
"To say we are appreciative of this win would not do justice to how humbled we are. Research and development is the foundation of Lycored's technologies to ensure a successful process of vertical integration from seed to supplement," said Golan Raz, Head of Global Health Division at Lycored. "The study sheds light on a particular niche in this field of research, and to be recognized for it in this category further advances the credibility of our Lycopene-Rich Tomato Nutrient Complex; Thereby also advancing our overall skin health and wellness program which has grown tremendously in an effort to support the idea of ingestible skincare as a mainstream concept in the U.S."
The study, funded by Lycored, found that when assuming the role of genes as indicators of oxidative stress, photo-dermatoses and photo-aging, Lycopene-Rich Tomato Nutrient Complex and lutein provide protection against solar radiation-induced health damage. The research also supports the increasing evidence of, as well as furthers the assertion of photo-protection by oral supplementation with carotenoids. The findings build upon a growing body of research explaining the role in which antioxidants play in human skin health and overall protection against solar radiation.
In addition to this published clinical research, Lycored's award-winning skin health and wellness program consists of an innovative, consumer-oriented integrative marketing campaign, aptly titled #rethinkbeautiful. By challenging the idea of beauty and highlighting beauty from within, Lycored is breaking beauty out of its proverbial box and creating an emotional connection to ingestible skincare. Ultimately, Lycored aims to take ingestible skin health supplements from a niche market to mainstream success in the U.S that mirrors the markets in France and Japan.
