Lustgarten Foundation Launches Online Support Community
WOODBURY, N.Y., Nov. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research in partnership with Let's Win, an initiative supported by the Foundation, and Inspire launched an online support community, Pancreatic Cancer Connections, which provides a safe space for pancreatic cancer patients and their loved ones to share their experiences, get valuable coping resources, and support one another. Inspire is a leading healthcare social network that connects more than 1,000,000 patients and caregivers.
Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths with a survival rate of only eight percent. Pancreatic Cancer Connections serves to support those impacted by the disease and fill a need for more resources and engagement in the community. This is the first online support program implemented by the Lustgarten Foundation.
"A pancreatic cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming for the patient and loved ones. They need a place to freely express their feelings and meet others experiencing the same challenges. Pancreatic Cancer Connections fills that need," said Kerri Kaplan, president and CEO. "We're excited to offer this new resource with Inspire as we continue funding the most promising pancreatic cancer research."
"We are thrilled to partner with the Lustgarten Foundation," said Inspire CEO Brian Loew. "Together, we have built a powerful support platform designed specifically for people affected by pancreatic cancer. With recent scientific advancements in diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer, we hope to help many pancreatic cancer patients share and learn from others through Pancreatic Cancer Connections."
Individuals can sign-up for Pancreatic Cancer Connections at no cost and will be welcomed into an engaging and supportive community. Discussion topics include treatment options, nutrition, coping with the disease, and more.
