WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Lupus Foundation of America (Foundation) announces that it will be accepting applications from lupus investigators and student researchers to provide critical funding for lupus scientific research.
"Lupus is a complex disease that presents challenges that can only be overcome by a robust public and private medical research effort," said Sandra C. Raymond, President and CEO of Lupus Foundation of America. "These grants are essential for generating faster progress through innovative approaches."
This year, we expanded the Career Development Award to include pediatric research and added an opportunity to support underrepresented communities through the Gina M. Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowship Program.
The Foundation is accepting applications for the following awards and fellowships:
Career Development Award
The award is designed for second or third year rheumatology, nephrology and dermatology fellows in the U.S. and Canada who are interested in lupus research. In support of the Foundation's commitment to advance pediatric research one of the two awards will be granted to a qualified applicant with a study focused on pediatric lupus research.
Gina M. Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowship Program
The fellowship program aims to foster the interest among students in the areas of basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological or behavioral research relevant to lupus. Six awards will be given; one award will be in support of an underrepresented minority student, a second award will be in support of a student whose work directly impacts rural areas.
Lupus investigators who are interested in the grant opportunities may obtain more information and links to the online applications at www.lupus.org/rfa. Applications are due by April 8th, 2017 at 5PM EST.
