LUNGevity Unveils One-of-a-Kind, Comprehensive Lung Cancer Resource
New Website Empowers Those Living with and Learning about Lung Cancer
WASHINGTON, Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's largest lung cancer nonprofit, announced the launch of a unique and comprehensive resource for everyone living with lung cancer, as well as their families and caregivers. The new LUNGevity website provides access to a variety of vital information and supportive resources, from a robust Lung Cancer 101 section and expert blogs to a strong online lung cancer support community and list of grassroots LUNGevity events and survivorship summits held nationwide.
The new LUNGevity website takes a holistic, 360 degree approach to helping survivors approach the disease, addressing the mental, physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of a lung cancer diagnosis. Website content was developed and vetted for accuracy by the medical editorial board and members of LUNGevity's prestigious Scientific Advisory Board. Members of the LUNGvity Survivor Advisory Council also evaluated the content to ensure that it would be both accessible and relevant to lung cancer survivors and their caregivers.
"The LUNGevity website is a wonderful resource for patients and caregivers as they navigate their way around the complexities of medical care today," said Rebecca Suk Heist, MD, MPH at Massachusetts General Hospital and member of the editorial board. "It provides useful information that can help guide or serve as starting points for discussions between patients and their medical care teams."
The site focuses on providing resources to change outcomes for those living with lung cancer and empowering website visitors to be active participants in their diagnoses, treatments, and the way they live with the disease. By using the expert-created check lists and questions for each phase of the disease and its treatment, patients learn to be their own advocates, asking the important questions and ensuring that they are receiving the best treatment for their type of lung cancer. LUNGevity's website also provides access to a wealth of accessible yet extensive information about lung cancer, treatment options, and clinical trial opportunities to help patients better understand and address the disease.
"LUNGevity Foundation is proud to provide a robust one-of-a-kind resource that empowers survivors and their families during the process of lung cancer diagnosis, treatment, and continued maintenance. With the help of an exceptional group of medical advisors and lung cancer survivors, LUNGevity has created a website that serves as a comprehensive educational toolkit, helping people to better understand and proactively manage their disease," said Andrea Ferris, president and chairman of LUNGevity.
