NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF™) held its signature gala, the Fourteenth Annual Strolling Supper, on Wednesday, November 9 at Gotham Hall in New York City. The event was hosted by Bill Ritter, Co-Anchor Eyewitness News at 6 & 11, and raised the highest amount ever, nearly $1.5 million, to benefit lung cancer research.
The Strolling Supper brings together members of New York City's professional, social and philanthropic communities to help support LCRF and its mission to improve and save lives by funding groundbreaking research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer.
LCRF funds projects across the spectrum of basic, clinical and translational lung cancer research. To date, LCRF has funded nearly 300 grants, totaling $23 million. 2016 marked a record-breaking year for LCRF and its Scientific Grant Program, as LCRF awarded $2.2 million in research grants to 15 investigators.
"LCRF continues to fund a diverse portfolio of research projects year after year and it is fundraising events like the Strolling Supper that allow us to fund more and more innovative research for the most underfunded cancer," said Nancy Sanford, Executive Director, LCRF. "This year's Strolling Supper has single handedly raised more than 50 percent of the total amount LCRF awarded through the 2016 Scientific Grant Program."

Guests enjoyed music by DJ Loyal presented by Troy Curtis Entertainment and bid on a variety of silent auction items including a St. Andrews Golf Experience for Two, a Safari Adventure in Kenya for Two, a Lionel Messi Hand-Signed Barcelona Jersey and Dinner for Four at Rao's in New York City.
"The Strolling Supper is a chance for lung cancer survivors and supporters to come together, celebrate, raise awareness and support our grant program," said Mary Ann Tighe, Vice Chair, LCRF Board of Directors.
