Lung Cancer Alliance Volunteers Hosting Over Fifty National Shine a Light On Lung Cancer Vigils
Candlelight Vigils to Be Held in 28 States on November 4th
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) thanked volunteers from across the country as they continue planning and putting together National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigils in their communities. Over 53 volunteers will host a vigil in their community to honor their loved ones, raise awareness and provide hope, compassion and support for all those touched by lung cancer.
"The response we have received nationwide has been remarkable. The lung cancer community is stepping up and bringing lung cancer to the forefront of discussions," said Laurie Fenton Ambrose, LCA President & CEO. "November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and through our collective efforts we are bringing lung cancer out of the shadows."
Based on the model successfully used by LCA State Chapters in Massachusetts and New York and others throughout the country, the vigils will combine personal survival stories, commentary from health professionals and community leaders and tributes to survivors and those lost to the disease.
"I am hosting a vigil because I want to do something. As a lung cancer survivor myself, I feel that others need to know that there is hope and there are people who care about them," said eleven year lung cancer survivor and Florence, KY vigil organizer, Kathy Sinclair. "Through this vigil, I am confident that we will start making positive changes for lung cancer."
"We appreciate the hard work of all our vigil organizers. From Casselberry, FL to Castle Rock, CO to Albion, IL to Nashua, NH to Sacramento, CA, their dedication has helped us grow what started in a handful of states into a national movement to increase compassion and support for lung cancer," said David Watson, National Co-Coordinator for Shine a Light.
