Lung Cancer Alliance thanks Congressman Rick Nolan (D-MN) for supporting lung cancer research
Additional $1 million added to $12 million included in FY16 DOD funding pipeline
WASHINGTON, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Lung Cancer Alliance thanked Congressman Rick Nolan (D-MN) for adding another $1 million to the Department of Defense (DOD) Lung Cancer Research Program bringing the total to $13 million for FY16. The Program, which was established in 2008 by Lung Cancer Alliance, has now passed the $100 million funding mark.
In offering the amendment on the floor of the House of Representatives today, Congressman Nolan acknowledged his personal connection to lung cancer sharing his daughter's recent diagnosis and story. Congressman Nolan said that the disease is claiming over 159,000 lives a year and that this additional funding will help continue to bring us closer to finding a cure. The amendment was passed unanimously without objection. The full House is expected to vote on the entire FY16 DOD funding bill by tomorrow. The Senate still has FY16 DOD funding under consideration.
LCA President & CEO immediately called to thank the Congressman. LCA advocates from MN met with the Congressman during their annual Advocacy Summit in April to share their stories, offer support and assistance, and to make the case for additional research funding for those impacted by lung cancer.
