Lung Cancer Alliance Earns Coveted 4-Star Charity Rating for Second Year
Joins Elite Group of America's Leading Charities
WASHINGTON, Oct. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) announced that for the second consecutive year, it has received the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's premier charity evaluator.
Only 15% of America's charities have received this top designation two years in a row.
In a letter to Laurie Fenton Ambrose, LCA President & CEO the rating agency said: "We are proud to announce that Lung Cancer Alliance has earned our second consecutive 4-star rating."
Ken Berger, President & Chief Executive Officer of Charity Navigator called the designation "exceptional" and said "this differentiates Lung Cancer Alliance from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust."
The rating is based on a review of fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
"Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way," Berger said.
Fenton Ambrose said: "This is an honor not just for the organization, staff, board members, and volunteers, but for all those who have put their confidence in us to lead the movement for change and help save lives today. We will not let them down."
Founded in 1995, LCA was the first lung cancer organization to provide on staff support services for patients and their loved ones, and to launch a national awareness campaign on lung cancer statistics, the stigma associated with the disease and how little research funding was actually going to the leading cancer killer.
Still the only national organization focused exclusively on providing support and changing health policy, LCA was the first to secure a federally-funded lung cancer research program and has been the leading voice on low-dose CT screening for those at high risk for lung cancer.
Lung Cancer Alliance (www.lungcanceralliance.org) is committed to reversing decades of stigma and neglect by empowering those with or at risk for the disease, elevating awareness and changing health policy.
