Lung Cancer Alliance Announces National Advocate Advisory Council
WASHINGTON, March 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) proudly announces the expansion of its advocacy platform with the establishment of the Lung Cancer Alliance National Advocate Advisory Council (LCA-NAAC).
The LCA-NAAC is an assembly of "lead leaders," advocates recognized for their long term commitment to LCA and the lung cancer movement, for their outstanding work within the lung cancer community and for their unwavering support of LCA's goal of reducing lung cancer's mortality by 50% by 2020.
"The members of this Council are vital ambassadors whose passions, energies and capacities have uniquely and substantially impacted local and national awareness of lung cancer," said Laurie Fenton Ambrose, LCA President & CEO. "We will continue to call upon them for their critical guidance and perspective as we expand our programs and the lung cancer movement."
Founding Members of the National Advocate Advisory Council are long term lung cancer survivors with a proven commitment to improving outcomes for the entire lung cancer community.
"I believe one of my responsibilities as a survivor is to be a voice for the 1.4 million people that have died of lung cancer since I was diagnosed in April 2004," said Founding Member and eight year survivor, Richard Heimler from New York City. "I am proud to be an advocate for lung cancer and raise awareness of lung cancer with the media, politicians and the general public."
Tonie Forster from AZ was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 1992. "My community all became survivors with me. In the end survivorship is about healing within a community and the Lung Cancer Alliance allows for that to happen for all of us. I am glad to be part of this process."
