Lung Cancer Alliance Announces 5Th Annual Shine A Light On Lung Cancer Vigil
Over 100 Communities Host Vigils to Raise Awareness about Lung Cancer
WASHINGTON, June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Lung Cancer Alliance announced the 5th Annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil will take place across the United States and several other countries during November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month. As the largest internationally coordinated awareness event for lung cancer, the vigil provides a voice and community for the millions impacted every year around the world.
On November 14th and throughout the month of November, vigils will unite participants in one call to action: to triple survivorship by the end of this decade. Vigils feature personal stories from survivors and caregivers, updates on early detection and treatment, and a unifying call to action culminating in the lighting of glow sticks to shine a light on lung cancer.
Lung Cancer Alliance is committed to having 125 communities host vigils to raise awareness locally and globally. Furthermore, the Alliance is pleased to continue its partnership with the Lung Foundation of Australia (LFA) for the third year. In addition, vigils will take place in Egypt and Brazil, and anticipate at least 3 additional countries joining in the next few months.
"My friend and I went in honor of our 'third musketeer', our friend Janet who passed away in October. It was wonderful to hear from our local doctors and survivors and to be able to honor Janet by being there to show support to others and the organization," shared Liz Colavecchio, a 2012 vigil participant in St. Augustine FL, a vigil hosted by lung cancer survivor Pat Dunn.
Lung Cancer Alliance gratefully acknowledges our Title Vigil Sponsor -- Lilly Oncology -- for making the vigil possible this year.
We also thank our National Vigil Sponsors: Pfizer and Safeway Foundation.
