Lucy Pet's Gnarly Crankin' K9 Wave Maker 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade Float Complete With Surfin' Doggies Wins the Parades' Extraordinaire Trophy and Becomes International Media Darling
Winning the Guinness World Record for both longest and heaviest float ever entered in the parade, Tournament of Roses officials judged it to be "the most spectacular float"
PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lucy Pet's Gnarly Crankin' K9 Wave Maker 2017 Rose Parade float, built by Fiesta Parade Floats, powered by Ford and featuring surfing dogs, has won the Tournament of Roses Judge's Extraordinaire Trophy. It was judged to be the "most spectacular float" in the parade. The award winning float was featured on local and network TV news around the world including ABC Nightly News, whose anchor said it "stole the show" and NBC Today show, when weatherman Al Roker, went viral with his excited praise, causing his comments about the Lucy Pet Team of surfing dogs to trend nationally.
"We are so honored to win this trophy," says Joey Herrick, founder and owner of Lucy Pet Products. "Everybody has worked incredibly hard to make this float happen. I couldn't be more proud than I am right now. But more importantly, we can never forget that the purpose of the float it to bring awareness to the 80,000 dogs and cats euthanized every week in this country. So please spay and neuter your pets."
The float's theme depicted a beach side paradise complete with surfing dogs. As the float progressed down the parade route an onboard wave maker, built by American Wave Machine, provided the waves on which the dogs surfed a 90-foot long tank containing over 8,000 gallons of water.
This giant float was powered by a Built Ford Tough 6.8 liter V10 gasoline engine. The driver sat deep in the bowels of the float relying on a navigator sitting atop the float to relay directions to him as he steered down the parade route.
Riding atop the Lucy Pet's Gnarly Crankin' K9 Wave Maker float was 13-year-old pop star and Internet sensation JoJo Siwa. An avid pet lover with three dogs, this was her first time riding a float in the Annual Tournament of Roses Parade.
Also riding on the float was Carolyn Hennesy, Emmy-nominated soap opera star from ABC's General Hospital and New York Times best-selling author.
