LSI Achieves Triple-Level Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Compliance for Processors in Telrad TAG-11 Gateway
Achieves MEF 9, MEF 14 and MEF 18 certification for Link Layer Processor and Advanced PayloadPlus product families
MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that its Link Layer Processor (LLP) and Advanced PayloadPlus® (APP) processors have achieved compliance with three Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) specifications. The LSI™ products are integrated into the Telrad TAG-11 gateway, which recently underwent testing by Iometrix, the networking industry's preeminent testing authority, to earn MEF certification in the MEF 9, 14 and 18 specifications.
LSI has the distinction of being among a select number of semiconductor companies that can claim MEF certification in multiple MEF specifications. Achieving these certifications is important to network equipment manufacturers like Telrad because it validates the functionality and reliability of components which are critical in achieving overall performance levels for their products.
Launched in April 2005, the MEF Certification Program accelerates the worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet by verifying compliance of vendor equipment manufacturers' and service providers' products through a series of industry-standard tests.
"We are committed to delivering solutions that will give our direct customers and service providers assurance of interoperability in a real network with other equipment that has T1/E1 over Ethernet interfaces," said Shane Gunning, multiservice marketing director, Networking Components Division, LSI. "Certification of the LSI Link Layer Processor and Advanced PayloadPlus family of processors provides another level of assurance that our products can deliver the performance to power today's sophisticated and demanding networks."
"The LSI components played a vital role in achieving MEF certification for our TAG-11," said Shai Yanai, executive vice president for Product Solutions, Telrad. "This industry recognition is a mark of distinction that adds value and sets the TAG-11 apart from our competitors."
The Telrad carrier-grade TAG-11 Pseudowire Emulation (PWE) Gateway, powered by the LSI pseudowire emulation solution, enables T1/E1 Circuit Emulation Service (CES), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) emulation and Ethernet emulation (ETHoP), providing Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) data transport over Packet-Switched Networks (PSN) for wireless and wireline backhaul, business services and SmartGrid applications.
The LSI PWE solution allows customers to use their current native service, such as TDM, Frame Relay, ATM or Ethernet over a packet-switched network (MPLS or IP) and deliver them over Ethernet networks. The LSI LLP and APP are both processor-based, which means any changes or upgrades in the pseudowire standards can be easily implemented, making these solutions among the most flexible on the market.
The LSI LLP is a highly integrated solution for applications such as wireline access networks and wireless access applications. The LSI APP family of communications processors offers fully integrated, single-chip solutions with wirespeed data path, security, traffic management, application and control processing functions.
