LSI 6Gb/s SATA+SAS Storage Adapter Shipments Top 750,000 Units
Strong demand for MegaRAID and 3ware 6Gb/s SATA+SAS RAID controllers and HBAs among OEMs and channel customers worldwide drives shipments
MILPITAS, Calif., May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced the company has shipped more than 750,000 storage adapters based on 6Gb/s SAS technology, reinforcing LSI's continued leadership in the SAS market segment. The milestone underscores the broad market demand for LSI® 6Gb/s SATA+SAS RAID controllers and host bus adapters (HBAs) among server OEMs, ODMs, system integrators and resellers worldwide.
SAS has rapidly become the predominant storage interface offered by server vendors worldwide for direct-attached storage connectivity to SATA and SAS hard disk drives (HDDs). In their latest worldwide HDD forecast and analysis for 2010-2014, industry analyst firm IDC estimates that disk drives with SAS interfaces will account for over 64 percent of all enterprise disk drive shipments in 2011. IDC further estimates that by 2014, disk drives with SAS interfaces will account for a 72 percent share of all enterprise HDD shipments.(1)
"The fact that LSI has already shipped three quarters of a million 6Gb/s SATA+SAS storage adapters – while our competitors have only recently announced availability of 6Gb/s controllers – is testament to the outstanding combination of performance, scalability, reliability and ease-of-use offered by our host bus and RAID adapter solutions," said Kelly Bryant, vice president of marketing, RAID Storage Division, LSI. "As the rapid industry transition to 6Gb/s SAS technology continues, our extensive portfolio of 6Gb/s SAS and SATA solutions will continue to enable our OEM and channel customers to cost-effectively meet the diverse and demanding application requirements of a wide variety of markets."
Since the inception of SAS, LSI has delivered industry-leading products across its broad portfolio of 6Gb/s SAS solutions, including complete families of MegaRAID® and 3ware® RAID controllers and a wide range of HBAs. LSI recently announced a second-generation line of MegaRAID 6Gb/s SATA+SAS controllers that deliver the industry's highest server RAID performance at 465,000 RAID 5 random IOPS. Powered by the LSI dual-core 6Gb/s SAS RAID-on-Chip (ROC) IC, these controllers extend the performance leadership offered by the first-generation family of products.
In addition to RAID controllers and HBAs, LSI offers 6Gb/s SAS ROC, controller and expander ICs, SAS switches, advanced software options and the WarpDrive(TM) SLP-300 acceleration card. The products are available through the LSI worldwide network of distributors, system integrators and VARs as well as select enterprise server and external storage OEMs.
