L.R. Kimball Survey to Guide Long-Term Public Safety Communications Efforts in Texas
Firm Conducting Capabilities Study to Help Guide 11 of the State's 24 Councils of Government's Migration Plans to Support P25 Interoperability
EBENSBURG, Pa., May 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- L.R. Kimball has been retained by the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) and 11 of the state's Regional Councils of Government (COG) to support Phases 2 -4 of the Regional Interoperability Communications Planning (RICP) "Round Two." The firm is one of the nation's leading providers of architecture, engineering, and public safety communications and interoperability planning services.
As part of the project, L.R. Kimball has completed a comprehensive regional and statewide interoperability communications survey and assessment of public safety communications capabilities. The information gathered from the assessment is being used as the foundation for developing each Region's migration plans to support P25 interoperability by 2015.
The firm is responsible for collecting data from local public safety agencies in 11 of the state's 24 COGs and providing reports that align with the Texas RICP Round Two Roadmap. Councils of Government included in the project are the Alamo Area Council of Government, Ark-Tex Council of Government, Capital Area Council of Government, Coastal Bend Council of Government, Deep East Texas Council of Government, Golden Crescent Council of Government, Heart of Texas Council of Government, Lower Rio Grande Valley Council of Government, Nortex Regional Planning Commission, Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission and South Texas Development Council. The project is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2011.
"Texas is really ahead of the curve when it comes to documenting statewide capabilities and assessments for every single radio system," explained Nicholas Falgiatore, M.S.E.E., Telecommunications Specialist, L.R. Kimball. "Typically, assessment projects like these are limited to a single agency or a single radio system. But the multi-agency data we're collecting will give the COGs and the Statewide Interoperability Commission, which is led by TXDPS, a solid understanding of their strengths, weaknesses and funding needs as they move forward with P25 interoperability."
