Louisiana Healthcare Connections Provides Support for 23 Back-to-School Events Across the State

NEARLY 7,000 CHILDREN RECEIVE SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND HEALTH EDUCATION

BATON ROUGE, La., Sept. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Louisiana Healthcare Connections has provided support and participation for 23 back-to-school events across the state since July 31, 2018, helping to ensure that 6,647 children were adequately prepared for the 2018-2019 school year. The events spanned 17 cities in 13 parishes across Louisiana.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections provided school supplies, including backpacks and lunch bags, to attendees as well as age-appropriate information about physical, oral and vision care, bullying prevention, and nutritional education. The health plan's trained health coaches were also onsite at each event to provide personalized assistance and support to members, and to promote the value of preventive care for long-term wellness to all attendees.

Many of the supported events also provided families with access to important supplemental services such as free haircuts, school uniforms and health screenings for both adults and children.
