GURGAON, India and MORRISTOWN, N.J., July 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Louis Berger has been awarded a contract by the Engineering, Design and Research Center (EDRC) of the Special Bridges division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction, India, to provide an independent design review of the Durgam Cheruvu Bridge in the city of Hyderabad, India.
"We're honored to play a role on the Durgam Cheruvu Bridge project, which will address the region's traffic woes and cater to the future needs of the Hyderabad Information Technology and Engineering Consultancy City," said Kshitish Nadgauda, senior vice president and managing director for Asia. "We look forward to leveraging our global design expertise to support the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation."
The extradosed bridge across the Durgam Cheruvu Lake, characterized by shallow-angle external cables, will be approximately 735 meters long (2,411 feet), with the main bridge having a 96-meter + 234-meter + 96-meter three-span configuration. The bridge has a 26-meter overall width with a two-lane carriageway and sidewalk on each side of the divided carriageway. It will connect Ambedkar University to the Inorbit Mall in the suburb of Madhapur. In addition to improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion, the bridge also is expected to increase tourism prospects in the region.
Under the contract, Louis Berger will provide an independent design review of the main extradosed cable-stayed bridge, approach viaduct spans, as well as of the approach road, geotechnical interpretative report (GIR) and highway alignment. The total estimated cost of construction is ₹147 crores ($22.8 million USD).
"We're proud to partner with L&T to deliver Hyderabad's first extradosed bridge," said Debasish Ray, Louis Berger's head of structures for South Asia.
