Los Angeles Police Protective League Calls for Billionaire Owner of L.A. Rams to Pay Full Cost of Police Services for Football Games

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) will demand that Stan Kroenke, the billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Rams, pay the full cost for necessary police services to ensure public safety at L.A. Rams home games.  The estimated cost to provide police protection at Ram games is approximately $2 million a year.  Thus far the Rams have not agreed to pay their fair share of policing costs and this will drain police coverage in other areas of our city.  The LAPPL is also urging Mayor Eric Garcetti to reject any requests for sweetheart deals funded by the taxpayers for the NFL team.

The temporary location of the Rams in Los Angeles has created a need for over 200 police officers to ensure adequate safety at every home game.  This comes at a time when the LAPD has critically low staffing levels and the City of Los Angeles has experienced a dramatic increase in violent crime and property crime over the past two years.  Since 2014, violent crime is up 42%, aggravated assaults are up 54% and vehicle thefts are up 36%.  The LAPD already struggles daily to try and field enough officers to safely patrol our streets.  Failure of Kroenke, listed by Forbes Magazine as one of the richest people on the planet, to pay his full share of policing costs will have a negative impact on an already overstretched LAPD and hurt neighborhood safety.
