Los Angeles Police Department Rescue Missing Elderly Using EmSeeQ® Locator Device
FRISCO, Texas, Jan. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- An elderly man is now home safe and sound with his family in Los Angeles thanks to the quick thinking of his son and Los Angeles Police Department authorities and a life-saving wearable locator device called EmSeeQ® by EmFinders that can quickly locate missing children and adults with cognitive conditions.
The elderly man was reported missing by his son, Farid Noruli on Saturday, January 8th. Mr. Noruli notified police and contacted EmFinders to activate the EmSeeQ device. The device called 9-1-1 and triggered the E-9-1-1 national emergency location system to transmit the his father's location using advanced cellular signal triangulation technology. This location was displayed on the 9-1-1 dispatcher's screen, and relayed to local authorities allowing them to recue him safely.
Throughout the search, the dispatcher was able to continuously update the EmSeeQ device's location, allowing the relay of real-time location data to the highway patrol officer on the ground. They followed the dispatcher's instructions and located Mr. Noruli's father ten miles away from his home at the precise location provided by the EmSeeQ. Mr. Noruli mentioned that his father worked downtown and had apparently got on the bus to go to work. Mr. Noruli stated that without the device they would not have known where or how to locate him.
"We are thrilled to have our father back at home, and happy that the device provided my father's location so the police department could bring him home," said Farid Noruli.
Because EmSeeQ works so quickly, the device not only saves precious time—which could mean the difference between life or death for patients with autism or Alzheimer's disease—but also reduces the manpower and costs associated with the search and rescue effort.
The EmSeeQ product is available in two different styles: a watchband-type device with a traditional buckle, and a clasp-style that requires two hands for removal. The device is activated by EmFinders at the request of the caregiver, but only after the caregiver has completed an initial search for the individual in the immediate area and placed a call to 9-1-1 to report the individual as missing. After receiving the activation command from EmFinders, the EmSeeQ calls 9-1-1 and the wearer's location is provided directly to the dispatcher.
