Los Angeles' Lessons Shape Animal Law Studies

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The highly-sought, pioneer in animal welfare Madeline Bernstein, President of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) will travel to Lewis & Clark to share her expertise with the next generation of animal law students.

The Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark, in collaboration with the Animal Legal Defense Fund welcomes Bernstein as the first Distinguished Visiting Animal Advocate.   Bernstein will offer a series of lectures for students enrolled in the J.D. program as well as the world's first advanced LL.M. (Masters of Laws) program in animal law (September 24^th-28^th).

The Center for Animal Law Studies housed at Lewis & Clark Law School is the first law school in the world to offer an advanced legal degree in animal law (Animal Law LL.M.). 

Bernstein will visit the Oregon Humane Society and present the lecture, Animal Cruelty Cases - Lessons Learned from the Frontlines on September 28th.  Area law enforcement, veterinarians and animal welfare advocates will benefit from Bernstein's thirty years of experience in the animal law field.

Joining spcaLA in April, 1994, Bernstein, an accomplished and respected attorney, is one of America's preeminent leaders and advocates promoting animal welfare.  Today, spcaLA is recognized as the leading voice, educator and hope for the animals it protects and the humans it serves.

Bernstein is a member of the California Bar Association, New York Bar, United States Southern District and United States Eastern District Bar Associations and has been an Adjunct Professor teaching employment, labor, evidence and criminal law at La Verne University College of Law and an arbitrator through the American Arbitration Association.
