Los Angeles Jewish Home Launches Centennial Celebration With Photographic and Multimedia Exhibit That Displays Past, Present and Future Story of Home
The Home Announces Plans for a Year-Long Celebration that Looks to the Next 100 Years of Growth and Service to the Los Angeles Jewish Community
RESEDA, Calif., Jan. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A specially-curated exhibit of photographs and multimedia images that brings together stories, memories, images, and a glimpse into the future of the Los Angeles Jewish Home – in celebration of the Home's Centennial – will open for public viewing on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Home's Eisenberg Campus, 18855 Victory Boulevard in Reseda. The exhibit will be located adjacent to the Zuckerman Board Room.
The gallery design embodies the Star of David, reflective of the Jewish values of the Home, and is a visual celebration of 100 years of service to the community. Incorporated into the exhibit is the Home's focus on the future, with illustrations and explanations of bold plans to provide much-needed services for a rapidly growing senior population.
The exhibit features dates/years, static images, five digital screens, and mirrors – indicating that the viewer is part of the Home, its legacy and its future. The digital screens depict various stages of the Home's history, current services, and future growth.
The installation was designed by Christopher Muniz whose work has appeared at the Skirball Cultural Center and will remain on view at Eisenberg Village for the duration of the Centennial year. Tours of the exhibit are available by appointment. Contact Bonnie Polishuk at (818) 818-757-4407 or Kathy Gutstein at (818) 757-4460 at the Jewish Home.
Additional Centennial-related activities and events will include the Centennial Seders program. Participants will be encouraged to host one or more seniors at their Passover seder table. The Home is creating and will be providing Centennial Seder Kits free-of-charge to all participating households.
Later in the spring around graduation time, the Home will host its inaugural "Senior Prom." Jewish Home residents and students from New Community Jewish High School will join together at the Home for music, dancing, food, and festivities.
On August 4, the Home will introduce the Fifth Commandment Shabbaton to help raise awareness of the importance of showing honor and respect to the elders of our community. This event, taking place annually on one of two Sabbaths when the Ten Commandments are read (the fifth commandment being Honor thy father and thy mother), will bring synagogues throughout the city together to dedicate one special Sabbath a year to the seniors in their respective communities.
Founded in 1912, the Los Angeles Jewish Home is one of the foremost multi-level senior living communities in the United States. It also has the distinction of being the largest single-source provider of senior housing in Los Angeles. In total, the Home annually serves more than 2,300 seniors with a continuum of services.
