Los Angeles Jewish Home Hosts Eleventh Annual Walk of Ages
Canter's Deli Truck to Bring Landmark Delicatessen to Walk of Ages in Reseda
RESEDA, Calif., Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lace up your sneakers and join the Los Angeles Jewish Home at the eleventh annual Walk of Ages, presented by Wells Fargo, on December 5 in Reseda. With nearly 1,000 participants annually, the Walk of Ages is one of the largest walks held in the San Fernando Valley, attracting serious runners and leisure walkers of all ages. The event raises funds to support the work of the nonprofit Jewish Home, which has provided in-residence care to more than 1,200 seniors annually since 1912.
This year, the Walk of Ages welcomes the very popular Canter's Deli Truck, featuring their famous sandwiches, hot matzah ball soup, and delicious latkes (potato pancakes). What a tasty way to warm up a December morning! Canter's, in addition to being a Walk sponsor since the event's inception, will donate 20% of sales to the event.
The Walk will begin and end at the Home's Eisenberg Village Campus at 18855 Victory Boulevard. Registration begins at 7 a.m., so come early to register and enjoy some refreshments before the 5K event starts at 8:30 a.m. Nearly 50 local businesses have joined with Wells Fargo in sponsoring the event or putting together a team of walkers and runners. Individuals and teams may register for the event at www.walkofages.kintera.org or by calling (818) 774-3324.
"Why do you walk?" is a question the Jewish Home has asked registrants this year, and a variety of answers have been received. Some will walk or run in the event because it's a fun way to spend the morning. Some reasons are more personal, such as having experienced the Home through the care a loved one is receiving, or has received. Whatever the reason may be, everyone who participates is helping to support the programs and services the Los Angeles Jewish Home provides for seniors.
Founded in 1912, the Los Angeles Jewish Home is one of the foremost multi-level senior living communities in the United States and the largest single-source provider of senior housing in Los Angeles. In total, the Home annually serves more than 1,700 seniors through our extraordinary continuum of services. Each year, more than 1,200 women and men are cared for in-residence on two village campuses, with services including independent living accommodations, residential care, skilled nursing care, short-term rehabilitative care, acute psychiatric care, and Alzheimer's disease and dementia care. Another 500 seniors are served through the Home's community-based programs, which includes Skirball Hospice and community clinics. The Home is a nonprofit organization that relies upon donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to continue its remarkable work. Further information regarding the Home can be found online at www.jha.org or by calling (818) 757-4407.
