LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifteen percent of Los Angeles CIOs said they plan to add full-time technology professionals to their teams in the first half of the new year, according to the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. Another 60 percent expect to maintain staff levels by filling vacant roles. In addition to hiring plans, the report also highlights technology skills in demand and CIOs' top priorities for the first six months of the year.
"Right now, companies are looking to project managers and software engineers who can drive innovation and help solve for business challenges with working applications," said Paul Flaharty, regional vice president for Robert Half Technology in the greater Los Angeles area. "We're also seeing increased demand for professionals with skills in wireless network management, Windows administration, database management and desktop support."
Hiring Challenges and Skills in Demand
It continues to be a competitive hiring environment: 55 percent of CIOs in Los Angeles said that it's challenging to find skilled IT professionals in today's market. The skills in greatest demand within their organizations, according to respondents, include:
- Desktop support (50 percent)
- Business intelligence/reporting services (48 percent)
- Wireless network management (46 percent)
Top Priorities
When asked to name their top priority for the next six months, 24 percent of Los Angeles CIOs said they will be focused on innovation or helping to grow their business. Other priorities will include:
- Upgrading existing systems for business efficiency (23 percent)
- Maintaining security of IT systems and safeguarding company information (23 percent)
- Technology innovation and investing in new technologies (20 percent)
- Staff retention (11 percent)
