Currently Chief of Joslin's Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Section, a Senior Investigator in the Section on Genetics and Epidemiology at the Joslin Diabetes Center and a Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Laffel is an outstanding leader in the clinical care of patients with diabetes. Her active clinical practice with a highly regarded multi-disciplinary team and clinical research program attracts patients from all over the world.
With more than 200 publications, including co-authorship on multiple clinical guidelines addressing type 1 diabetes, Dr. Laffel's career has had a significant impact on guiding clinical care for children and young adults with diabetes. Dr. Laffel has extended her clinical expertise through dedicated mentorship of clinical trainees. Over the course of two decades, she has trained more than 60 students, residents and fellows. She has developed a research program with continuous National Institutes of Health funding, but has always maintained her clinical commitment. She is well known for embracing the use of modern technologies to optimize glycemic control in youth with type 1 diabetes and ably integrating biological and behavioral science principles into clinical care.
