Looks Like Snow Will Finally Make Its Way to Florida for Red Bull Butter Cup
An Arctic Blast is Expected to Storm through the Waterfront Commons in downtown West Palm Beach for this Snowboard Competition
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Jan. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While the winter season has brought plenty of snow and cold weather to every state but Florida this year, it looks like the sunshine state will finally join the list of snow fallen territories on Friday, February 11th when a blizzard blasts through the Waterfront Commons in downtown West Palm Beach for Red Bull Butter Cup. Luckily, the snow will only be in town until it melts later that day and will provide a snowboarding haven for Florida riders who don't typically get the luxury of having a ski lodge in their backyard to shred on.
"I hope everyone will join us at the spectacular new waterfront as it's transformed into a snowboarder's paradise," says West Palm Beach Mayor, Lois Frankel. "If you've got a board...ride the course and if not...enjoy the action. There's nothing like real snow and beautiful palm trees...this will be an event to remember." The series allows snowboarders to spread their smooth style onto custom-made features and is expanding to 22 stops in its third year across the country, with this being the first-ever stop in Florida.
BUTTER ME THIS, BATMAN!
Red Bull Butter Cup is a snowboard contest series that showcases creativity in technical flatland trickery. Born in the northeast in 2009 and expanded in 2010, it's all about going back to the basics of what made us all fall in love with shredding in the first place: FUN! The series invites riders of all types to cut loose, and spread it on.
Each stop will feature local riders in a Pro/Am format, where they will battle it out in a jam session, where overall style and creativity will help the cream rise to the top. Only trick sequences that include "buttering" will count. Registration is available online at www.redbullusa.com/buttercup and limited to the first 80 snowboarders who sign up. On-site registration will be available only if the maximum amount of participants isn't met ahead of time. Participants will be split into Pro or Am divisions based on skill level. Shredders under 18 are welcome, but must be with a legal guardian on-site to register.
