Looking Younger, Step by Step: Boston Plastic Surgery Practice Documents a Patient's "Transformation" Through Series of Videos
Boston Plastic Surgery demonstrates the dramatic difference a year of injectable treatments makes.
BOSTON, Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Documenting a year-long transformation, Boston Plastic Surgery is excited to show firsthand just how dramatic the results of non-surgical procedures can be. Kelly, age 42, agreed to share her journey as she revitalizes her face and returns to a brighter, more youthful look.
"Kelly came to us wanting to take care of some of the early signs of aging," says Maryanne Savage, RN, BSN, and Aesthetic Nurse Injection Specialist. "Her main areas of concern were her complexion, facial lines, and thinning upper lip. Luckily, non-surgical treatments like BOTOX®, Juvederm™, and skin resurfacing are great options for looking younger without a facelift."
The first phase of Kelly's treatment was to start fighting wrinkles and refreshing the upper face. Focusing on frown lines and crow's feet, the first line of defense was BOTOX. BOTOX is one of the most recognizable injectable treatments and is most commonly used to treat forehead movement lines and the glabella region (skin between the eyebrows and above the nose).
"Neuromuscular blockers, like BOTOX, stop the release of a chemical called acetylcholine, which in turn stops the contraction of specific muscles in the face. When those muscles become relaxed, facial lines and wrinkles gradually flatten out, with results typically lasting 3-5 months," says Savage.
After developing a plan to achieve Kelly's goals, a series of injections were administered to treat the areas where she was seeking improvement. BOTOX typically takes around 10-14 days to completely settle, so Kelly was sent home with instructions to return two weeks later to plan the next step. The first segment of Kelly's transformation is available for viewing here.
Already seeing results, Kelly returned for the next phase of her transformation. It was time to discuss how to address the lost volume in her mid-to-lower face. Injected beneath the skin to add fullness and decrease the appearance of wrinkles, dermal fillers were a great fit for addressing Kelly's deep nasolabial crease and revolumizing her lower face.
"Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected directly beneath the skin," says Savage. "We can use fillers to soften wrinkles around the nose and mouth, plump up thin lips, improve the appearance of recessed scars, and enhance shallow contours. When used in tandem, BOTOX and fillers begin working together and enhancing the results of each other, which can deliver a more satisfying result than a single treatment."
Lasting from 9 months to a year, Juvederm was the perfect choice for Kelly's needs and was injected into a series of areas to help soften her deep smile lines. Kelly will continue to see improvement for months after her initial treatment. Watch the second phase of Kelly's journey here.
Although the combination of BOTOX and dermal fillers did the heavy lifting, Kelly has also been working with the Aesthetician at Boston Plastic Surgery to address skin care concerns. Her personalized treatment plan included laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels to improve her complexion and brighten her skin. The Aesthetician will continue working closely with Kelly to plan a healthy at-home routine to help boost and maintain her revitalized appearance.
The videos say it all: Kelly's personalized treatment plan—including BOTOX, dermal fillers, and professional skin care—has had a dramatic effect. Already looking years younger, Kelly still has more to go. Stay tuned to Boston Plastic Surgery to see where Kelly's journey takes her throughout the rest of the year.
