LOMA Secure Retirement Institute™ Launches Capstone Course for FSRI® Designation
Global Association Completes Curriculum for Unique Industry Retirement Education Program
ATLANTA, April 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The LOMA Secure Retirement Institute™ today announced the introduction of Transforming Retirement Security (SRI 500), the course which completes the curriculum requirements for its Fellow, Secure Retirement Institute® (FSRI®) designation program.
The new course looks at the U.S. retirement system from a strategic perspective to provide learners with a broad-based understanding of the system's evolution, environment and performance. As the capstone course in the FSRI education program, this course challenges students to think beyond their current roles and explore options for improving retirement security from both a company perspective and a system-wide perspective.
"The capstone course completes a curriculum that increases employees' business acumen, offering a comprehensive view of the retirement marketplace and some of the biggest challenges facing it," said Kathy Milligan, FLMI, ACS, senior vice president of LOMA's Education and Training Division. "By achieving the FSRI designation, employees will gain insight into the forces shaping the future direction of the retirement system and build a foundation for their continuing professional development and career advancement in the retirement sector."
Key topics included in the capstone coursework are:
- The regulatory structure and economics that support the U.S. retirement system
- Forces and trends challenging retirement systems
- The potential for innovation in the retirement industry
This course will also explore the impact of Social Security, financial products and financial advice on retirement security in general, and more specifically, women and minority populations. Students will examine retirement systems in other countries and compare them to the U.S. retirement system.
Transforming Retirement Security leverages LOMA's effective and contemporary blended online delivery system and challenges learners with completion of three components: (1) an interactive online exercise, (2) a proctored exam based on text and online study materials, and (3) two essay-style assignments from a variety of selections including analysis of case studies, articles, expert videos, and extended research. Once enrolled, students will have six months to complete the coursework.
Employees in operations, technology, customer relations, compliance, marketing and distribution will benefit from improved knowledge about the challenges facing society and the retirement system. Completion of the course requirements will enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills and encourage innovation in the workplace.
Those who successfully complete the SRI 500 capstone course and have already earned the Associate, Secure Retirement Institute® (ASRI®) will earn the FSRI designation. The FSRI program, which is specifically designed for employees who support retirement plans and products in companies serving the retirement marketplace, is already being used by more than 220 organizations across the retirement sector.
