NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Last year, Logicalis, an international IT solutions and managed services provider (www.us.logicalis.com), conducted a global survey to examine CIO pressures and priorities around the world. The research revealed that, as a result of the global financial crisis as well as other cost and competitive pressures, the relationship between businesses and IT was changing rapidly. Line-of-business managers were beginning to take more direct control of IT decisions, promoting the trend toward "shadow IT." More than half of the CIOs surveyed said they were spending at least 70 percent of their time on day-to-day management as opposed to strategic planning. A year ago, CIOs indicated they didn't like the way things were going; their top priority, they said, was to streamline and optimize existing technology infrastructures, which in many cases meant using managed services more efficiently to free their time for more strategic work in areas of growing importance like mobility and big data. The survey showed a common theme: Worldwide, IT leaders were actively looking for ways to drive a services-led IT transformation to close the gap between business expectation and IT delivery capacity and capability. Did they succeed? How have things changed a year later? To find out, Logicalis is conducting another survey, and it is inviting IT leaders to participate.

"Business users don't want technology. They want tools that meet their business needs, and they expect the IT department to deliver those tools on-demand, as-needed, all the time," says Mike Martin, Senior Vice President, Solutions and Services, Logicalis US. "Typically, this leaves IT pros running full speed ahead, but getting nowhere; they're spending the bulk of their time and energy just keeping IT running smoothly, which leaves no time for more strategic work. Last year, the survey showed that CIOs were searching for relevance and looking toward a services-led approach in transforming their IT departments. Now, it's time to take the pulse of the CIO community again to find out if they've made the shift from technology-based thinking to services-based thinking that will fundamentally change the way businesses consume technology going forward."
The new global survey will be available online until October 7th. CIOs and other top IT leaders are invited to participate. Results from the survey will be available for download from the Logicalis US web site at www.us.logicalis.com in late 2014.
