HERNDON, Va., Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sept. 21, in coordination with Volunteer Fairfax, hundreds of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) employees and their families are expected to participate in four community services projects in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Each project will serve local non-profits such as, Scrapbooking for Kids, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Town of Herndon Department of Parks and Recreation and Armed Forces Retirement Center.

Scrapbooking for Kids (Lockheed Martin, 700 North Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20879): Volunteers will create memory books for the children that are served through area nonprofits. These memory books will help them to gather memories through school and activities. Volunteers will gather at IS&GS Headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., to create the template pages in the books based on gender that the children will be able to complete on their own.
Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) (Lockheed Martin, 13560 Dulles Technology Drive, Herndon, VA 20171): TAPS is the 24/7 tragedy assistance resource for anyone who has suffered the loss of a military loved one, regardless of the relationship to the deceased or the circumstance of the death. Volunteers will assemble resource kits and anniversary cards for the families at the IS&GS-National facility in Herndon, Va.
Town of Herndon Department of Parks and Recreation (Runnymede Park and Sugarland Run, 195 Herndon Parkway Herndon, VA 20170): This 58-acre neighborhood park provides excellent recreational opportunities. Visitors can walk along Sugarland Run Stream and look for over 100 species of birds, deer, fox, and other wildlife which frequent this park site. Volunteers will help to restore the park's natural habitat and wildlife species.
Armed Forces Retirement Center (3700 N Capital St. Washington, DC): Volunteers will support the Armed Forces Retirement Home's mission in Washington, D.C., to fulfill a promise to our nation's Veterans by providing a premier retirement community with exceptional residential care and extensive support services. AFRH residents will not only benefit from outside beautification, but also from the social interaction and activities.
