Lockheed Martin Delivers Five Millionth Part as U.S. Military Global Automotive Supply Chain Manager
COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Two years into its role as the U.S. military's global automotive parts supply-chain manager, Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) delivered its five millionth part, helping to keep all U.S. military land-based vehicles operating worldwide.
Lockheed Martin delivered the five millionth part, a fuse cartridge, to the U.S. Air Force in Kunsan, Korea. The company manages and ships more than 1,300 automotive parts under the Fleet Automotive Support Initiative – Global (FASI-G) program. Deliveries to more than 10,000 locations – have exceeded the government's contract requirements with better than 96 percent on-time delivery.
"Our supply-chain management solution with its seamless demand forecasting, inventory management and distribution help to ensure the right parts reach the warfighter on time, every time," said Dan Heller, vice president of new ventures for Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems & Sensors business.
To support FASI-G's full execution phase, Lockheed Martin opened a new Global Sustainment Command Center in Columbus in early 2009. Staff at the center provide around-the-clock support and oversee inventory forecasting, order management and distribution, as well as tracking for cost effective, reliable, timely operations. As part of the program, Lockheed Martin manages the parts of 350 suppliers, 85 percent of which are small businesses.
Lockheed won the 10-year FASI-G contract in September 2008 from the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Inventory Control Point in Columbus. Lockheed Martin fully transitioned into the contract's execution phase and began performing on all program requirements in June 2009.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
