Lockerz Introduces LockerzCares™
Social Shopping Leader Adds Global Non-Profits to Platform to Enable Discovery, Engagement and Donations to Charities Worldwide
SEATTLE, Aug. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockerz, the leader in rewarded social shopping, today announced the launch of "LockerzCares," a new feature where any charity or nonprofit may educate and inspire millions of Lockerz members worldwide with their cause.
LockerzCares launches with nine causes that will share photos, images and videos (Decalz) on the site that support their individual missions. Lockerz members can then add these to their own Lockerz collections, spreading each charity's message to their followers. Additionally, members may donate directly to causes via a Donate button on all LockerzCares Decalz.
Initial non-profits include: Nicholas Negroponte's One Laptop Per Child, Vittana, Girls Who Code, Grassroot Soccer, the Tech Museum, Wayuu Taya, Swell Cause, Love 146 and The Sea Doc Society.
"Gen Z's sense of altruism is a defining characteristic of this new generation of world citizens," said Kathy Savitt, founder and CEO of Lockerz. "Over the past couple of years, many of our millions of members have requested a way to expand Lockerz' social commerce and expression platform to be one that helps make the world a better place. Today, we're proud to give them that platform."
Beginning today, LockerzCares (http://www.lockerz.com/cares) will become an immediate part of Lockerz' growing Tastemaker program, a network of more than 300 artists and style makers, including Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Milo Ventimiglia, Cher Loyd, Fitz and the Tantrums, The Neon Trees, Cris Cab and Boy Meets Girl® founder and Lockerz Chief Fashion Editor, Stacy Igel.
Since its founding in 2009, Lockerz' mission has been to revolutionize the way people discover and consume products and content. The company has focused on the most disruptive demographic in recent history, Generation Z. Currently the site has millions of members in 195 countries, with 94% being between the ages of 13-35.
Lockerz members come daily to the site to create collections of photos, images and videos that become "Decalz." Lockerz members earn PTZ (points) for nearly everything they do on the site, including grabbing and sharing Decalz. These PTZ are then used to get the lowest prices on hundreds of products offered in the Lockerz Store and through its affiliate retail partners.
