Localeur Launches Ultimate Local's Guide to SXSW
Austin locals share recommendations on where to eat, drink and play
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Localeur, which launched in advance of South by Southwest Interactive last year, today launched a local's guide to the influential music, film and tech festival taking place March 7-16 this year. The guide is available at www.localeur.com/SXSW.
Localeur provides authentic local recommendations from a community of local insiders to help you experience local and avoid tourist traps.
The startup also announced plans to celebrate its first anniversary at popular new East Austin bar, Whisler's, on Friday, March 7, and again on Monday, March 10, at Red River District live music venue, Holy Mountain. Those interested in attending can visit www.localeur.com/RSVP for more information.
"SXSW is attended by some of the world's most important creative professionals, from engineers and entrepreneurs to musicians and moviemakers, and it's easy to be overwhelmed by all the activities taking place," said Joah Spearman, co-founder and CEO of Localeur. "Our local's guide shares a best local perspective on how to have the best possible experience during SXSW."
Last year, Localeur's web-based app was named one of the favorites at SXSW Interactive by Digital Trends. This year, attendees will be able to download Localeur's native iPhone app, which became available for download from the App Store earlier this year. The Localeur iPhone app has already been named one of the year's best by Heavy.com and Investor Place.
"During SXSW 2013, our web-based app helped thousands of people experience Austin the way us locals do," said Chase White, co-founder and head of product. "This year, you'll be able to download our iPhone app from the App Store and use Localeur to find the best local spots to eat, drink and play nearby."
Localeur has built a diverse roster of investors including active angel investor Chris Shonk, Sweet Leaf Tea founder Clayton Christopher, Travis Devitt, a hedge fund specialist who has advised on public investments in TripAdvisor and Expedia, and New York-based entrepreneur Dre Hayes and globe-trotting DJ Mick. Successful Austin technology leaders Heather Brunner (WP Engine, Bazaarvoice), Ken Cho (People Pattern, Spredfast), and Joe Ross (CSID, Grande Communications) are also invested.
"With so many people from around the world attending SXSW, having the local's perspective makes the Localeur iPhone app a must-have," said Hayes, co-founder of New York-based brand and retail agency The Foundation. "I've attended SXSW multiple times, and Localeur's guide is definitely something us out-of-towners will love and use."
