Localeur Launches Ultimate Guide to Experiencing Austin
Austin startup to celebrate its 2nd birthday during SXSW festival on March 16
AUSTIN, Texas, March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- South by Southwest, the annual music, film and technology conference in Austin, is just days away and Austin-based startup Localeur today launched the ultimate guide to experiencing local in the city. Localeur, deemed Austin's "Best New Startup" in 2013 and a top travel app for 2015 by The Today Show, Forbes and others, has launched a micro site dedicated to all things related to the festival ranging from where to eat to where to find the best parties. The site can be found at www.localeur.com/SXSW
Localeur will also host its own events around SXSW Interactive including a kickoff event at King Bee Lounge, a buzzy dive bar in East Austin, on Thursday, March 12 at 10 p.m. and its annual birthday party on Monday, March 16 at popular live music venue, Holy Mountain, at 10 p.m. that night in partnership with Tito's Handmade Vodka. Visit www.localeur.com/RSVP to attend.
Localeur, which initially launched with Austin-only content at SXSW 2013, was named the year's best new startup by Austin Monthly later that year, and more recently has been named one of the top travel apps in 2015 by Men's Journal, MTV and others. Localeur has already garnered more than 300,000 users with its focus on millennials given the startup a user base nearly a decade younger than that of Yelp.
"In our first two years, we strived to build a foundation of authenticity and credibility by relying exclusively on millennial locals to share quality recommendations in the city's they live in," said co-founder and CEO Joah Spearman. "Millennials want more credible recommendations, not just reviews or checkins, and SXSW is a perfect time for us to celebrate our second year while showcasing some of our best recommendations on how to experience Austin."
Localeur has built a community of millennial influencers in a dozen major U.S. cities including: Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and, most recently, Seattle and Washington, D.C. and plans further expansion into more U.S. and international cities in 2015. Localeur's focus on Millennials comes at a time when the $1.3 trillion online travel industry is becoming more attuned to the needs of this important demographic.
"Consumers — especially tech-savvier ones raised in the Facebook era — want an experience that is fun and personalized. Something they can share or even brag about," wrote Jennifer Booton for MarketWatch on Oct. 23, 2014 ("Millennials are migrating away from review sites Yelp and Angie's List").
"A generation that has never experienced life without computers, Millennials have come to expect everything to be available anywhere, anytime," wrote Brooke Bergman for Forbes on Oct. 29, 2014 ("Millennials Are Influencing Digital Travel Trends More Than Ever").
To expedite its growth, Localeur recently secured a major investment from several former and current executives from Facebook including former chief revenue officer Mike Murphy, bringing its total amount raised to $1.2 million. The company has utilized the new funds to hire its first two full-time employees, both engineers.
One of its engineers, Chase Moody, will be hosting a SXSW Interactive Workshop titled, "The More You Node," on Saturday, March 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the new JWMarriott hotel. Localeur's first board director Heather Brunner, CEO of WP Engine, will serve as a panelist on a SXSW Interactive panel as well. See below for key information about Localeur's suggested SXSW schedule. Localeurs such as Austin food blogger Jane Ko, LA-based tech startup veteran Rachael King and Brooklyn-based DJ MICK will also be active during the festival and conference either showcasing food as part of the ATX Food Crawl, hosting dog owner meetups or DJing at popular parties.
