Localeur Feeds Google App, Plans San Francisco Expansion
AUSTIN, Texas, July 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Following its successful launch in Austin, Texas, during South by Southwest and a recent expansion into Houston, Localeur today announced it has developed a content partnership with Google to share its curated recommendations in the Google Field Trip app. Localeur also announced today that it plans to expand into San Francisco in August.
Localeur aims to help travelers experience local by providing credible local recommendations from a curated community of Millennials who know various aspects of the city from where to eat and drink to places they consider overrated or tourist traps. Users of the Google Field Trip app will have access to Localeur recommendations through their native iPhone and Android apps. The five-month-old startup joins Thrillist, Food Network, Zagat, Eater, and more than 100 other content partners in the Google Field Trip app.
Today, site visitors can go to www.localeur.com on both desktops and mobile devices to explore local recommendations in both Austin and Houston. The startup is timing its San Francisco launch in advance of the buzz worthy music festival, Outside Lands, which takes place August 9-11 in Golden Gate Park.
Launched less than five months ago, Localeur was named one of Digital Trends' favorite mobile apps of SXSW just days after launch and, more recently, named one of Austin's top startups by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and SXSW Interactive. San Francisco will mark the third city for the company in its first six months since closing an angel round primarily between Austin and New York investors.
"We're extremely excited for this launch because we get to help travelers discover and share what's unique to San Francisco in the same easily-digestible way people have in Austin and Houston," said Chase White, co-founder and president, who previously worked in product design for Austin software company Bazaarvoice.
"Even in just a weekend exploring San Francisco with Localeur, you may stumble upon places like 15 Romolo, Fat Angel, Taylor Stitch and Sightglass that are the kind of local gems that make San Francisco so special," said Joah Spearman, CEO. "Partnering with Google for its Field Trip app will only make it that much easier for people to get quick, easy access to curated recommendations from our Localeurs."
The co-founders met at Bazaarvoice where Spearman led market planning for the travel industry after serving as its director of operations and strategic initiatives. Spearman previously co-founded the style portion of South by Southwest Festival and advised companies like ESPN X Games and FedEx on experiential and social media marketing. Previously, White worked in brand management and taught social media and web entrepreneurship through Duke University's Talent Identification Program.
