"We couldn't do our work without volunteers," said Sarah Schirmer, corporate gifts developer. "Last year, volunteers donated more than 117,000 hours to Oregon Food Bank, equivalent to 56 full-time employees. We're thrilled that Phusion Projects employees have joined our Oregon Food Bank family."
Oregon Food Bank (OFB) is a nonprofit, charitable organization that works holistically to help low-income families alleviate hunger and its root causes. OFB helps nearly one in five households fend off hunger by distributing food from a variety of sources through a statewide network that includes its four branches (in Beaverton, Ontario, Portland and Tillamook), 16 independent regional food banks and 947 partner agencies. Oregon Food Bank also addresses the root causes of hunger through advocacy, education programs for low-income youth and adults.
"At Phusion Projects, our employees must be committed to giving back and lending a hand to local communities in need," said Jeff Wright, one of the company's co-founders. "We understand how impactful our time and monetary donation to the Oregon Food Bank is and thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent there."
This is Phusion Projects' tenth food bank volunteer day and donation in 2011. The initiative will continue once a month throughout the year in select communities. Additionally, the company encourages further community involvement by offering an employee matching program for contributions made to non-profit organizations.
