MADISON, Wis., June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Three area nonprofits, GreenPath, Inc., Home Buyers Round Table of Dane County and Project Home, have teamed up to offer a free two-night Home Buyer Education Class on June 9 and 16 in Madison.
"The class is for first time homebuyers, particularly those who qualify for various down payment assistance programs," said Bill Druliner, GreenPath Community Engagement Manager. "It will help participants prepare for homeownership, assist them in budgeting and planning appropriately, and help them understand the mortgage application and approval process." He also noted that there is currently one down payment assistance program available that provides over $5,000 in assistance to eligible buyers.
The class features practitioners in lending, real estate, insurance, home inspection and debt management. Classroom time totals seven hours over two consecutive Tuesdays. A one-hour GreenPath counseling session is also required for those applying for down payment assistance programs.
June 9 will cover credit, money management, down payment assistance programs and lending.
June 16 will feature realtors, home inspectors, insurance agents and closing experts.

*To receive a Pre-Purchase HUD certificate, borrowers must complete both classes and a pre-purchase counseling session with a GreenPath housing counselor either by telephone or in person at GreenPath's Madison office at 725Heartland Trail, off Old Sauk Road.
