LONG BEACH, Calif., May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Creative Productions, a marketing and advertising agency based in Southern California, is broadening its participation in green initiatives by hosting its third annual electronic waste (E-waste) donation drive, aimed at local businesses that are in need of safe, certified electronic disposal. The event, scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Airport Business Park, located on the corner of East Spring Street and Clark Avenue, will be recycled by the agency's long-time client, Goodwill, Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County (SOLAC), a 501c3 nonprofit.
"Our agency believes in walking the walk, which means supporting our clients at every level," states Deborah Golian Castro, president and CEO, Creative Productions. "It's even more meaningful, knowing that these efforts help preserve the environment and create jobs in our own community—it's easy to say yes to Goodwill," she added.
After a two progressively successful E-waste drives at its headquarters' building at Circle Business Center on Pacific Coast Highway, the agency thought it was time to expand its efforts and lead the way in helping other businesses participate in the Goodwill E-waste Recycling Program by co-hosting the event at a larger business plaza. This year, Creative Productions is sponsoring the drive along with it's landlord, Jamison Services, Inc., who is the location's property management company, and a new sponsor and tenant at the location, Onisko & Scholz, LLP, a Long Beach full-service CPA firm.
"Being involved in this drive not only helps our firm be green by recycling our outdated electronics, it allows us to make positive economic impact on our community," said Lauren Osborne, marketing director, Onisko & Scholz, LLP. "It's one way small businesses can contribute to the economy and fuel jobs at the local level," she added.
All local businesses are encouraged to responsibly dispose of their unwanted E-waste, including televisions, computers, monitors, keyboards and associated accessories; in California, it's illegal to place these items in regular trash bins. Microwaves, printers, and scanners are not accepted.
"We often say that Goodwill is the original recycler; from donations, to shopping, to recycling—it all ads up to jobs that transform the lives in countless ways," said Castro. "As a board member of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, we encourage all businesses to bring their E-waste donations to our drive on May 23rd. If your company has computers or electronics that are no longer in use, think of Goodwill first; it not only keeps these items out of landfills, but your donations directly impact jobs in the community you live and work in," Castro added.
In just the last year, Goodwill processed an impressive 14.5 million pounds of textiles and household goods for sale. In addition, more than 805,000 pounds of E-waste was recycled, generating in excess of $1.4 million that was used to fund its job training and employment programs for underserved individuals who have a desire to work, offering them a hand up rather than a hand out.
"Providing job training and employment opportunities for local residents is at their heart of our mission," stated Julie Dover, chief operating officer, Goodwill SOLAC. "At the end of the day, it's about ensuring all donations benefit the communities we serve, and Creative Productions has been an excellent partner in helping us reach our constituencies for donated goods and E-waste recycling," she added.
Goodwill SOLAC is a certified collector of E-waste products through the State of California and uses only certified recyclers. Donors can be assured that all E-waste is properly handled per State environmental regulations and that the recycling revenues provide economic impact at the local level. When donating, you'll need to verify that all products were purchased in the State of California, and you'll receive a receipt for your tax return.
