Local Elementary School Becomes Weather-Ready: TriEagle-Funded WeatherBug® Weather Station Installed At Humble ISD's Willow Creek Elementary School
Woodlands-based TriEagle Energy® Donates Its First WeatherBug Weather Station To Texas School, Launches Multi-State Weather Station Gifting Program
HOUSTON, TX, Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ - While predicting the weather can be a challenge, the 550 students at Humble ISD's Willow Creek Elementary in Kingwood, Texas now have an edge over even the most reliable meteorologist. The 28-year old K12 school recently became part of the Earth Networks WeatherBug® Network -- the largest professional grade weather network -- with the installation of a gifted weather station atop Willow Creek Elementary. Funded by TriEagle Energy®, a leading energy retailer based in the Woodlands, the equipment measures temperatures, wind speed and direction, rainfall, atmospheric pressure and humidity in real-time, offering Willow Creek students and educators a wealth of science-based, interactive learning opportunities. For parents and the broader Kingwood community, the addition of the WeatherBug weather station means access to up-to-the-minute, hyper-local weather information as well as advance notice of critical weather events such as ice storms, lightning strikes, wind gusts and dangerous heat indices all available within the free WeatherBug mobile and desktop apps.
"Every day, the TriEagle team works to raise the bar for delivering exceptional customer service," said Rob Cantrell, Executive Vice President. "So when we saw our customers benefit from the customized energy usage insights and energy saving tips provided by our WeatherBug Home® Energy Scorecard, we knew we had to underwrite the installation of this valuable technology for the communities where we work and live."
The National Weather Service, the Department of Homeland Security and other key emergency management agencies rely on data from WeatherBug weather stations located at schools like Willow Creek Elementary to help serve and protect communities in times of crisis. Today, more than 8,000 schools across the U.S. operate WeatherBug's easy-to-use weather stations and Achieve STEM tools and lessons to integrate live, local weather data and technology into classroom learning.
"We are excited about the opportunity to bring our own weather data right into the classroom with the new WeatherBug weather station," said Scott Duncan, Principal, Willow Creek Elementary. "We know our students are most engaged and learn best when they can observe and interact with technology on their own terms. We will encourage all Willow Creek students to take advantage of the hands-on weather science education created by WeatherBug and show off what they have learned at our annual Science Fair in February."
In addition to the data provided directly by the school's weather station, current information from Willow Creek Elementary is now available on the WeatherBug mobile app, available for download at http://www.getweatherbug.com/
The Kingwood school is the first of five elementary campuses in Texas to benefit from TriEagle's weather station gifting program. The company also plans to donate weather stations to elementary schools in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Connecticut.
"At TriEagle Energy, we have built our reputation by doing right – not only by our customers but also by those who will never be," Cantrell noted. "We are thrilled to help fuel the imaginations of the next generation of scientists and meteorologists with this program."
