EDISON, N.J., Feb. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lizette Delgado-Polanco has been appointed as the New Jersey Deputy Political Director of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC).
"We are excited to have persuaded Lizette to join us in our efforts." NRCC Executive Secretary-Treasurer, John Ballantyne said. "Her advocacy towards defending the rights of the working men and women in New Jersey is well-documented and unparalleled."
"Ms. Delgado-Polanco has had a long and distinguished career in government and labor relations, policy development, public affairs, and business and community development," said NRCC Political Director Tricia Mueller. "We are looking forward to using her outstanding advocacy abilities to grow opportunities for our members."
"I'm excited to be here," Ms. Delgado-Polanco said. "Coming from a service union to a trade union makes for a seamless transition. I've been watching the demographics of the Carpenters changing and I'm happy to be part of such an incredible team."
Lizette was elected Vice-Chair of the New Jersey State Democratic Committee on June 12, 2013, and re-elected in November 2015 to serve a two-year term.
Prior to that appointment, Lizette was the Executive Director of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey State Council. The council represents the interests of more than 40,000 members across New Jersey in four major industries, including health and long-term care, property services, municipal workers, and resident physicians.
In 2002, she was named Assistant Secretary of State, the first Hispanic ever in that position in the State of New Jersey, managing a $41 million budget and directing the day to-day operations of 11 divisions.
In 2001, she spearheaded then-Governor James E. McGreevey's Statewide Latino Base Voter Program, resulting in the largest percentage of Latino votes ever cast for a gubernatorial candidate in New Jersey.
Lizette, who previously served on the State of New Jersey local Finance Board, sits on numerous boards including: New Jersey Working Families Alliance; Blue Wave NJ; New Jersey Citizen Action; Latinas United for Political Empowerment; Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey; Jersey City Employment and Training Board; and the National Board Dominicanos USA.
She has served as Vice Chair of the Atlantic County Democratic Party and Chair of the Galloway Township Democratic Party.
Lizette has a Bachelor's degree in Labor Studies from the National Labor College in Maryland. The proud mother of four resides in Mercer County.
"I'm looking forward to contributing to the preservation of labor's rights in New Jersey," she concluded. "We will be vigilant in looking for efforts towards "Right to Work" legislation and we will struggle to preserve the Project Labor Agreement (PLA) concept. The NRCC believes the PLA has been effective in promoting safety for the workers and contributed to economic growth throughout the state."
The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) is one of the largest trade unions on the East Coast.
The NRCC represents nearly 40,000 skilled working men and women throughout the states of Delaware and New Jersey, in addition to wide geographic areas of the states of Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The NRCC equips professional crafts workers with the skills and quality workmanship that are demanded in today's construction industry.
The NRCC's regional structure ensures that the organization can work cooperatively with contractors while maintaining the superior quality of workmanship that contractors have come to expect from union carpenters.
