LivingSocial Launches "Hungry Academy" to Train Next Generation of Software Development Champions
Intensive Five-Month Training Program Open To Those Interested in Building Amazing Products
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- LivingSocial, the online and mobile source for great values, today announced the creation of Hungry Academy – an intensive boot camp program that will provide up to two dozen dedicated people with the programming skills necessary to not just create software, but also build successful consumer and merchant products.
Over the course of five months, academy attendees will be mentored by the industry's best programmers while learning how to build successful products with software development tools like Ruby on Rails. Those who successfully complete the program may be offered a job with LivingSocial's engineering team.
Applications for Hungry Academy are currently being accepted at hungryacademy.com, with classes beginning in March 2012. Headed by Chad Fowler, LivingSocial's Vice President of Engineering, the program is offered in partnership with JumpstartLab's Jeff Casimir and will take place at LivingSocial's headquarters.
"LivingSocial created Hungry Academy with the goal of attracting the most passionate minds interested in solving challenging engineering problems," said Aaron Batalion, CTO of LivingSocial. "Entering Hungry Academy will provide attendees a unique opportunity to see how their work can help innovate and propel local commerce forward."
Hungry Academy is looking for driven people – even those without programming backgrounds. However, candidates with knowledge in computer science or engineering should have experience in web and mobile application development.
